Brand New: Brenda – For Nothing (GetMziki Exclusive **) – GetMziki

Brand New: Brenda – For Nothing (GetMziki Exclusive **)

I’ve been sitting on this song for so long – I cant call it new anymore. I do apologize because we seem to have some slight issues with some of our data storage servers but these efforts are slowly but surely being resolved. I am not sure who Brenda is, from my sources I gather she did a track with BIG PIN at some point…(Speaking of BigPin – he is in the US currently on tour, am sure he will be in a city near you pretty soon).

Either way am unsure how I feel about this song – as much as its a ULOPA NGOMA – I feel as though Brenda has like 3 lines through out the entire song. The hook is too repetitive, it feels like the chorus comes too soon so before I even realize what she is talking about … here comes the hook.

So I am not sure – I will sit out on this one for now, let you guys criticize the song. However she definitely sounds like she has a good voice…

This is probably the same Brenda who collabo’d with E-Sir on “Mos Mos”…
She has a nice voice but the song is definitely forgettable at best.

And I really clamour for the day when every artist & their uncle will stop gangbanging on autotune (and especially when its unnecessary with a voice like Brenda’s)…damn you, T-Pain & Kanye!

  2. Dannybwoy says:

Brenda collaboed with E-Sir on “Moss Moss”. She also did a track with Nameless & Bebe Cool called “Bad Boy” in the early 2000s which really didn’t hit as the former one.

  3. kimgitz says:

She is the same chic on the Moss Moss track…u r right! and I totally agree on the autotune!
However that is the least of my worries on this track….I really dont capture the message here…We need to find out who the song writer is….I have a feeling about who it is but could someone clarify my fear coz its definitely not Brenda writing! Its like picking a book with a good title but the story totally throws u!
    Brnda’s voice: 9
Ulopa production 8.5-wachana na autotune unless its necessary
Lyrics: 5 hope it not who i think it is that wrote this track, and if ni wewe Brenda tutakosana!

Jigga said yall need to stop tpayning too much on DOA..’Death Of the AutoTune’ for the slow ones!!! On some real shit if i hear any new artist on that autotune mess im going to scream!! Yap it is the same Brenda and i seem to love her more on that E-sir track Mos Mos since you can hear her strong vocal capabilities. She is on point!
The song is just plain whack and does no justice to neither Ulopa nor Brenda but the video on the other hand is topnotch stuff being an Ogopa video, and thats most probably why its gettin some rotation if any. As for her looks on the video il restrain myself on speakin on that….I simply dont feel this song at all.. no shit sherlock!
Kimgitz do tell us who composed this hot mess??! Must be the same person who did Solophobia.. matata hii!!

I actually like this song. I don’t care. She could very well sing about the birds and the bees. In this day and age when people sing songs like ‘I got plenty money’ – I think we can excuse the chic who sings 12 lines repeatedly about a ‘good for nothing guy’. I also don’t mind the auto-tune, it’s been used for so many years on dance music and I’ve never heard anyone raise any issues abt it – so go hug a wall Jay-Z. All in all, i’d give it a 7.5/10. Stop hating. It sounds good.

@ tk I respect ur opinion but allow me to humbly disagree. Listen to Mos Mos and try to imagine her un-adulterated voice on this track…and I mean no disrespect to Ulopa…but Brenda has a sweet natural voice last time I checked…Autotune is a great technology but its use should be limited to when necessary!
Society this days has us settling for less…since when did it become acceptable to lower our standards…yes I excuse Brenda only coz she did not write the song…and mind you there is nothing wrong with the storyline just how it was relayed!
I work in Europe and therefore have come to appreciate all forms/ genres of music. That being said Dance music has alot of issues…I mean just look @ its global market share…unlike Rock music, artist rely on technology rather than natural talent…too much sythns…no real instrument…no real voices just AUTOTUNE…very plastic I’m for the idea that technology is meant to enhance and not replace real instruments and amazing voices with not so amazing/real ones
And how u gonna diss JayZ..that should be a Cardinal sin on Getmziki….the guy has earned the right to be an authority in music…he is like a Major Prophet in the Music Bible! esp Urban music which is the category this track falls under not Dance!
I seriously apologies this is not a personal attack on you please understand that u just sruck a nerve..your right it doesn’t sound bad but it had the potential of sounding great. Ulopa+Brenda is a combination that deserves atleast a 9/10 with a high chance of hitting the full marks! IMHO

Brenda still taking indirect shots @ Kantai…move on, it ended

kimgitz – no offense taken here. We can humbly agree to disagree. But I get your point. But listen, on the Autotune – she only uses it within the hook. It’s not used all over the song a la what Jamie Foxx did on the ‘Alcohol’ track – which actually should make your point that it is a great technology but should be used in moderation.

On standards, I never advocated for low standards so if you care to elaborate how I did, let me know. I agree, this song won’t win any song writing grammies but my point was that songs don’t need to have some complicated/extensive lyrics to be good. Sometimes, the audience just wants something simple to dance to.Otherwise, tell me how songs such as “It’s hard out here for a pimp” and “this is why am hot” win acclaim.

On dance music – I agree. I actually take it a step further and say, live music rather than sampling needs to be done more within the industry. But the fan bases for Rock and Dance are different. Dance music has found it’s niche within the market and they seem pretty content about pleasing their fans – no harm in that even if they use autotune on all their songs. You advocate crossover for more mass appeal – which is also fine. Nothing wrong with pleasing your fan base though.

On Jay-Z, I respect him. He expressed his opinion – I disagreed with it, much like a lot of hip-hop fans on the other side of this Autotune discussion. You call him a major prophet – I call him an authority in the industry who can also be wrong. At the end of the day, hip hop is a dynamic genre which shouldn’t be confined to what Jay-Z thinks should or should not be done. I say – if the fans don’t mind autotune – who is Jay Z to say fans should mind it? I agree he can assert his opinion – but I don’t have to agree with it just because Jay Z said it. And I mean that in the nicest way possible.

I also have absolutely nothing against ur counterpoint. All in all, we can critique the song and you are right, if u feel Brenda+Ulopa can do better – hey, I obviously agree with you coz if I didn’t, I’d have given it a 10/10.
