Joh Makini feat G-Nako and Lady Jay Dee – Kilimanjaro

Joe Makini (real name John Simon) is a Bongo flava artist (Tanzanian) who hails from Arusha. I was wondering when someone from Arusha would come out and just rep their city in a big way, well I guess I dont have to wait anymore. This however is not to say that there aren’t any other Arusha heavy weights. It just means for the first time in my opinion someone is actually bragging about their city and the one iconic thing that’s in their city – the Kilimanjaro.

Joe or Joh as some call him had his debut in 1997 but it really wasnt until 2004 when he became an essential artist in the region when he released “hawapendi”. In 2006 he released Chochote Popote which ultimately went to cement his reputation as a formidable Bongo Flava artist in the region. Today as I sit and listne to Kilimanjaro, I cant help but feel a sense of pride and belonging – I feel happy to be Tanzanian… well sorta lol – but still this is just a feel good song that’s all about repping your city.

Nice flow – the track is actually taken from J.Dilla – slum village song called Reunion.

They’ve only sampled the flute riff,of which J-Dilla sampled from another track, Timeless by John Abercrombie.I hope they acknowledge this on the credits!! Good song, nevertheless
