GetMziki – Promo Only February 2017 Edition

It’s that time of the month again. It’s the promo only February 2017 edition.

I know we have not been consistent in releasing the promo only editions, but life, work and much more has made the promo only not consistent.

It’s 2017 and we will see if we can be doing one every month. Big shout out to all the djs that have been hitting us to keep on continuing with the promo only editions. Big shout out to Dj Sandy:)

This Month we feature 24 records……

You can access the previous promo only editions here.

With so many artists and tons of records being released on a weekly basis, it’s sometimes so hard to fully enjoy and digest records. Added with the hundred of records we receive from artists, we started having a monthly showcase of songs that we sifted through to find the cream of the crop that we believe deserve a few spins. The result is a 18-track compilation with a few bonus tracks. We showcase tons of records on a weekly basis and with everyone being busy with their daily lives, we decided to start showcasing records that are exclusive releases, chart setters, songs that will be future hits, present hits and everything else in between. Consider this as a music playlist to keep you abreast on what’s popping in the East African music scene.”

Brian Nadra – Leo

I enjoy an epic relationship with Musyoka which annually see’s us argue about who he is or what happened to his sound or body of work. Arguably if you live outside Kenya its hard to track the progress of any one individual (which is why eventually we developed a group of editors who are based in Kenya). But once in a while when he sends me stuff that seems to resonate with what I miss the most about him, I have to gladly oblige.

So Brian has been cooking up since last March but if this debut is anything to go by then I’d say the pair have found each other. Either Brian has found Musyoka or Musyoka has found Brian because the synergies of this collaboration are pretty good for a debut song. I like the whole urban kapuka feel that I miss so much in all the new music coming out of Kenya lately. I really feel worried when I hear us losing a little bit of that sounds that made Kenyan/Genge Unique. So anytime I am able to celebrate the little we have left in our music – I do and I do it well.

Bless this Brian Nadra song with all your heart, I feel like this is the start of something unique.

Kagwe Mungai – African Lady

This is new from Kagwe Mungai

The African Lady video is the most romantic love story of 2017. This modern day fairy tale tells the story of Kagwe and Malaika who are deeply in love. Their epic romance stretches through the tear-jerking trails and tribulations of college life and young adulthood.

Directed by Stanz Visuals

Here is an excerpt back in 2012 when I talked about the ‘African Girl/ AFrical Lady/ African Woman theme”

The “African Girl” theme has been done by various artists and when artists try to recreate their own versions people will always compare with what’s out there.

It’s not a bad record but I see an angle of musical laziness..

Kayvo Kforce x KillBill – I Do It (3 Piece Download)

This is brand new from Kayvo Kforce and Kill bill.

From the press release Kayvo Kforce is not a new name in the Kenyan Music Industry, the rapper has been working hard to maintain his position as a leader and has been proving critics wrong through his releases.

Last year December (2016) he released the singles ‘Sipendi Madrama’ featuring new comer Voste Wade and ‘Sauce’ which he collaborated with Reign (Kenya) and Keb (Botswana). The videos which are a combination of both Kenyan and International acts have been receiving great support making them go viral in Africa. (Check them out on Youtube)

This year he teams up with Dj KillBill to bring you “I Do It”, a single set to be featured on KillBill’s debut album titled “#SxKB (#SoundsByKB)”. The video was directed by Vj One. This record speaks volumes on Kayvo Kforce’s lyrical prowess and delivery.

The song talks about Kayvo Kforce’s approach to life and his art, it touches on his musical journey and a bit about his history growing up in Kenya’s biggest slum (Kibera) coupled with a little bravado as is the norm in HipHop. “I Do It” showcases his crafty and creative song writing and composition skills. Coupled with hard hitting, realistic, relatable punchlines and lyrics, this record is sure to penetrate the African Real Hip-Hop market as a multi-lingual straight shot from East Africa.

Kforce is surely bringing back what’s been missing in Kenyan Hip-Hop since the days of Kalamashaka and Mau Mau on this record whose main target is his core fans.

Production was on point…..

Khaligraph Jones x Cashy- Micasa Sucasa (VERRY HOTTT)

It’s been 4 years since we featured K. Jones as part of the 2012 Freshmen. We caught some heat on the list but time never lies. Fast forward to 2016 and Khaligraph is one of the top MC in Kenya right now. He’s been elevating his game and the records and shows are a testament on his ability as an artists. Micasa Sucasa is his latest offering.

Inspired by the original Song Hell On Earth By Mobb Deep, Khaligraph Jones and Cashy Merge to make Their own African Version Of it 2 Decades later since the original was released. K Jones and Cathy go back and forth spitting some dope lines and doing justice on the beat..

We are trying to get a good quality audio and once we do will post it here.

Nyashinski- Mungu Pekee (VERRY HOTT)

This weekend we had some discusiions with some of my Dj friends on the top 5 MC’s aka G.O.A.T in Kenya. As you know such discussions are enlightening but above all you get to hear peoples views on what they consider as lyricism, flow, punchlines among other things

Nyashinksi is among my top 5 MC’s that ever blessed the mic in Kenya. After retuning back home recently, he’s been in the studio doing what he does best.

The song is a message of encouragement to anyone, “No matter what situation you are going through in the phase of life, look up to God only, and you shall never be shaken.”

The record was produced by Cedoh with the strings by Poly-carp Fancy Fingers,,

Sauti Sol – Kuliko Jana Featuring RedFourth Chorus (Upper Hill School)

A new video From Sauti Sol

East African musical giants and multiple award winning act; Sauti Sol (Kenya) release a game-changing music video for KULIKO JANA, off their third album: Live and Die in Afrika. The meaning behind the song is; the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end – they are new every morning.” Featuring Redfourth Chorus (Upper Hill School), the song’s beautiful yet powerful message has stormed the charts and resonated with fans across Africa and beyond.

A viral clip of Sauti Sol in an a-cappella version of KULIKO JANA with the Redfourth Chorus caught the attention of international celebrities and media to the point where Amber Riley, star of the Emmy award-winning Show Glee, posted on Instagram, “I don’t understand what they’re saying but I know it’s beautiful. Sounds angelic- anyone know if there’s a full video?”
