Cosmic Homies – Time Flies and Too Lit

Cosmic Homies is making great music. Been following them for a while after I first heard about Think This Thru and recently released their debut mixtape O.N.E.

Their movement is #NuNairobi and with that comes a group of producers, engineers, artists who are out to make that out of the box quality music by experimenting with different sound and different ways of making music. SOme of the otehr groups involved in the #nuNairobi movement inlcuide EA Wave, Ukweli and Jinku just to name a few. Its that dope Electro-Organic music.

Diversely influenced, each member of the Cosmic Homies music crew brings to the collaboration a unique sonic flavor, be it Funk, Hip Hop, Soul, Jazz, Tribal and beyond. Featuring TAIO, Karungari, Marushka & Joseph Kiwango, we are Cosmic Homies: O.N.E. We exist to expand the current perception of a musical ‘genre,’ the current perception of ‘life on Earth’ and of Consciousness itself.

Here is how the decribed the Think This Thru record

In homage to the collective The Soulquarians, who coined their genre as “Boho-Rap,” Cosmic Homies experiments with an eclectic mix of timeless melodies, Urban beats and Afro Soul inspiration to produce an original style of ‘Electro-Organic’ music.

King Kaka ft Elani- Papa

King Kaka recently released this record, Papa featuring the talented group, Elani.
The song talks about King Kaka’s relationship with his father.

He has featured the dynamic Elani in Papa. “Elani is talented and working with them was a great experience,” he says.
The song is a celebration soundtrack to all fathers. for a very long time, society has not really celebrated fathers and the contribution they make in their children’s lives.
“In a lead up to the release of this song, I did a campaign, #ILOVEMYPAPA that received a huge outpouring of responses from people talking about the impact their fathers had on their lives. Some were good some were bad,” states King Kaka
Papa was produced by Cedo and the video was directed by Young Wallace.
“ I am now a father I would not want to have the same relationship I had with my father to trickle down to my kids. I am not perfect but I will try my best to be a better father to them,”

DJ RIGZ presents – Kenyan 2015 Yearmix ***

I love DJ sets that summarize a year for me and introduce me to music or videos that I hadn’t seen or didn’t care much about. The beauty about DJs is that if you are skillful you can blend and introduce really boring songs into a playlist that would most likely have been rubbished if poorly delivered. This year in review carefully put together by Rigz is the Business – I love every aspect of it because it just sums up Kenyan tunes in a little short of an hour.

BIG UPs RIGZ… Enjoy.

GBO – East African Girl

You always learn something new about artists, it comes as no exception that I think I’ve been learning something new about GBO each year. There’s a pretty good write up I found online here, that I think is worth reading to get a better understanding of who GBO is. However I think in his latest installment, there’s definitely a little more to learn about GBO’s versatility… give it a listen…

Kwame – Aki Wewe

Kwame’s latest single is dubbed “Aki Wewe (Mwah).” Undoubtedly intimate and sweet like nectar, Aki Wewe was birthed not in the throes of passion, but as a celebration of matrimony. A sure anthem to team ma-feelings, Kwame croons an enfeebling serenade to his wife, giving breath to words rarely heard from the lips of lesser mortals afraid to voice their emotions. The chorus denotes a sigh that escapes his heart, whenever he recalls the apple of his eye.

Aki Wewe was produced by Waithaka of Waithaka Ent, and MG. The backing vocals were provided by Barbara Guya, a stellar vocalist who has sung with the likes of Kidum and Suzanna Owiyo among a galaxy of dazzling stars. Kwame’s honey-laced vocals and Benjamin Kabaseke’s deft guitar strumming give the song its soothing signature. The entire jam is a breezy blend that will go into the annals of history as one of Kenya’s amazing love songs.
