Naulizwa mbona nliacha mziki
Ati nlikua mkali juu ya mic na namisiwa na mashabiki
Nliacha game mapema hata kabla reffa hajapiga firimbi
Bila kwaheri ati walishtukia tu ati kuna klepto mmoja haimbi
Samahani nimepotea, shukrani kwa wale wamenifikiria
Hizo miaka zote nimekua missing, lakini iko kitu hamjaniambia
Kaa ningebaki bado, ungekua na taki ya kuskia nikiwaimbia
Ama by saiii mngenifanya vile mnafanya ma pioneer
Story kwa media ati nimechapa, niko juu ya madawa, nahangaika
Show ni ule jamaa aliimbaa ‘Ada Ada’ ebu kam u curtain raisie mnaija
It’s not that serious, rap ni hobby
Bila mziki bado namanga
Ingekua career si ningekua nalia kuskia ati Naija Night Nairobi
Ambia new comer asijifeel sana
We ni mgeni siku ya kwanza tunakupenda (tunakupenda)
Uki-KAKA tutachoka na wewe ivo ndio ku uenda (ivo ndio ku enda)

Willy Paul featuring Size 8 – Tiga Wana

willy-paul-and-size-8

Willy Paul is back again with a a record “tiga wana” featuring Size 8. I know both Willy Paul and Size * are getting some bashing coz of this record . Most criticism is coming from people saying the song is not “Gospel” while the artists claim to do “Gospel Music”

Is it a case of the artists ‘Putting themselves in a box” by labelling themselves as gospel artists or can gospel artists make non-gospel music

Either way, this record is doing numbers…

Its a good catchy record

Charger-Artwork

Calvo Mistari & Didge the Neo soul sensation release their much awaited single ‘Charger’ off Calvo Mistari’s Second studio album, set for release in 2017. CHARGER is a song that talks about young high school love. Calvo reminisces of his past high school crush and proceeds to break it down to the listener. The song has been produced by Dillie under his production label, House of Dillie. This is Calvo Mistari’s 4th single release of the year following Take it low, Oweyo and Tuzidi Featuring Bobby Mapesa. . The video has been directed by Odibz for TeamMistari Production.

“So I wrote this song back in Highschool when I was starting out. I found my ‘Rhyme’ Book as I was moving Houses A few years ago. The song was about this Babe I had a crush on in high school. Back then I was in Highie (Highways Sec.) and we used to walk from Mada to South B daily she was in the Bus for LCVR which used to pick up girls from Mada at the time. Long Story short; Sometime last year I decided to rewrite the song, now that I have better Swagger, lyrics and flow” When I told Dillie, my producer, he suggested we get a voice on it… He introduced me to Didge a few weeks later and we had one session with him where we did the verses and the chorus. Didge later had a session where he finished the Bridge and his ad-libs I don’t know why it’s taken us over a year to shoot and release the video, but I’m glad it’s finally out. Most times Mziki Ni process” Calvo Mistari explained in a press release.

DJ RIGZ presents – Kenyan 2015 Yearmix ***

rigz_decks

I love DJ sets that summarize a year for me and introduce me to music or videos that I hadn’t seen or didn’t care much about. The beauty about DJs is that if you are skillful you can blend and introduce really boring songs into a playlist that would most likely have been rubbished if poorly delivered. This year in review carefully put together by Rigz is the Business – I love every aspect of it because it just sums up Kenyan tunes in a little short of an hour.

BIG UPs RIGZ… Enjoy.

Dan Mixa- Straight Outta Bongo (Bongo Flava Mix)

StraightOuttaSomewhere (2)

Dan Mixa sent me this mix a few weeks ago and now posting it. WIth so many djs out there and so many mixes, it sometimes hard to differentiate one dj mix from the other one since generally it’s the same records sequenced differently. I’m naturally biased when it comes to dj mixes, in that I’ll listen and only post dj mixes that have new music and exclusives and that out of the studio type of music that is available out there. I like to keep abreast on new artist, studio and new records that will be future hits.

Dan Mixa is a dj who apart from playing records, breaks records and gives you that exclusive music that keeps you in tune on what popping in the East African music scene.

Straight Outta Bongo is a Bongo Flava Mix that is loaded with tons of exclusives interlaced with current club bangers. Wit hthis you are guaranteed to be in tune with what’s poppin in the Tanzanian music scene

Kush Tracey – Hauwezi Ni Dandia

artworks-000117201951-ylf0g8-t500x500

Update May 29th 2015: Let me vent out on this post.
It’s something I’ve shared throughout the years. Kenyan artists claiming Dj’s do not promote their records, while the artists themselves make it SO DIFFICULT for djs/promoters/blogs to get access to their music. Case in point is this record by Kush Tracey “Hauwezi Ni Dandia”. Five djs have already hit me up asking for the audio wanting to add in in their music playlist rotation and I had to disappoint all of them telling them I don’t have the audio.
Maybe it’s something I will never understand but to me it’s makes no logical sense. Why put a record on Soundcloud and disable the download link.

With permission, see what a popular Dj in the Diaspora had to say

No wonder m nigeria kama wizkid ama davido aki release ngoma kenyan djs get it very fast and play it coz it’s easily available, downloadable vi rahisi. Lakini hawa wakenya they make it hard for djs to get their music halafu wana complain when their music is not played

Kenyan Kush Tracey is with a reply track to Kristoff’s Dandia with her own take “Hauwezi Ni Dandia”.
This is what she had to say on the record

Speaking on behalf of other women,we need men to respect us and also know that we ain’t cheap. As women we have a say when it comes to such situations and apart from that; I was making a statement that we can choose to say yes or no,it’s a song that people would love to hear and bump to, considering the original one was a hit. I just did the reply for all the ladies. The whole point is to entertain and there is no beef between Kristoff,Frasha and Rabbit, and Pacho.

If you liked the original, you will definitely like this

Nameless Mix – DJ KS

Nameless has had an amazing career and sometimes its easy to overlook it until someone does something special like this mix to commemorate his greatness. I didn’t know I was such a nameless fan until I listen to this mix this morning, but I find myself veering off into his old hits as opposed to some of his new new material. Maybe its an age thing.

For what its worth this is really a well blended, well mixed DJ set prepped by DJ KS who will be hosting some event in Aussie this month. The details of the event are on this url :https://metroconcertclub.com/index.php/concerts/item/nameless but truly this post is about the celebration of the music on the mix.

DJ Kaydee – Lethal Kenyan Hip Hop 1 Mix (Mixtape Fridays)

Kaydee has been featured on the site before with his mixes. When most djs are following each other on the type of mixes, I tend to ONLY listen to specific types of mixes. Here is an excerpt when we featured Kaydee and how he avoid the “group mentality” by having dope mixes that few djs can do.
“The whole Genge/Kapuka and pop mixes has been done – there is an over saturation of so many Similar mixes floating around the internet in one form or the other. So whats going to be your differentiator? I have told the same thing to a couple of out DJs I like out there, I keep telling them its too cloudy out there you need to clear things out by being one of the few DJs who can stand out.”

This Kenyan Hip Hop Mix cleary makes Kaydee stand out. This has been on constant repeat in my car the last few months. A tracklisting is also available for all those die hard fans who love knowing what they are listening too.

1. Vile Si Huaga – Ukoo Flani
2. Ndani ya Kazi – Ukoo Flani
3. Murder Heist – Head Bangerz International
4. Plaque – K. South
5. Mazishi – Ukoo Flani Mau Mau

9. Tension – Cannibal & Sharamma

Victoria Kimani – Two Of Dem

victoria_Kimani_1

Kenyan songstress Victoria Kimani is back with a new record titled “Two of dem” that was produced by produced by Drey Beatz. Currently signed to Nigeria’s Chocolate City’s, the record has the feel and aura of Dancehall/Naija records, and my personal opinion is that they all sound the same.

It’s not a bad record at all but it just didn’t do it for me. It lacked something and after a few listens I can honestly say that if they had a rapper spitting some 16’s or 32’s on the record would have easily catapulted it from a 3 to a 7. Classic example of a good record that lacks a honest evaluation from the production team and record label on how to produce a record.

Dj Lenny – Turudi Kwa Culture (Rhumba Vs Zilizopendwa Vol. 1)

RumbaVsZilizopendwaArt

Creating a noteworthy dope mix is never an easy task. So many djs out there are so talented but fail miserably in making timeless mixes that are listenable from start to finish. Dj’s have to find and keep that fine balance between seamless mixing, dropping exclusives or classics and above all differentiate themselves from everybody else out there and provide mixes that are listenable and appreciated by everyone. Dj Lenny’s Rhumba Vs Zilizopendwa Vol. 1 is a dope mix that is timeless and a must listen and favorite for any music lover.

Here is an excerpt on his inspiration for the mix.

One of my favorite shows in Kenya is on Saturday nights, a caller/soc media interactive show called ‘Rasha Rasha’. It’s basically a party set celebrating Rumba & Soukous music .. playing and discussing anything from the late great Franco & Tabu Ley to modern day superstars like Fally Ipupa & Ferre Gola .. while I had already contemplated making a rumba mix, the actual need or the cultural artistic importance of it dawned on me after catching a few episodes. My hope with this mix is that it educates as much as it entertains or brings back nostalgic memories from days when Rumba and Zilizopendwa music were mainstays on dancefloors from the Congo to East Africa .

The idea behind it was to make a mix that has a treasure kind of feel to it, a mix that someone will want to hold on to for years, hopefully, decades to come .. If it’s on a CD to make sure it never got scratched or an mp3 that would be copied and backed up several times to keep it safe .. a piece of art if you will
People don’t realize how important our culture is, how much it has shaped us as a people and for this mixes’ purpose ; the fact that we have to each play our part in celebrating it, documenting it and passing it on or forward to the future generations. . this is only VOL 1 so stay tuned.

This is fire. I loved the approach. Classics from Franco, Super Mazembe, Mbilia Bel, Tabu ley and many more are on the mix. That Bozi Boziana was and still is my jam…. Bump this heavy.

DTR – I love the 80’s

Every now and then when I am in a bad mood I go to DJ Dyme’s soundcloud account and I get some uplifting. This week this particular mix put me in my place and helped restore my faith in 80’s dance music. Enjoy this mix because the song selection really couldn’t be indicative of a time and place where most of us were in a mathree or in a club in Kenya. Dj Paco was the king of 80’s man…

DJ MR.T KENYA – UTAKE 2014

I always look forward to new Dj Mr T mixes. He recently released this UTAKE mix that will get definitely get you dancing. this is one that’ll last a while in your collection. Mr T goes heavvy on this one by taking listerns through a musical journey across east Africa and dropping new music from Kenya’s Redsan, Nonini, Uganda’s Irene Ntale, Fidempa and tons of great records from Tanzania including Professor Jay, Diamond, Ali Kiba, Rich Mavoko, Linah and many more.
