GBO – East African Girl

You always learn something new about artists, it comes as no exception that I think I’ve been learning something new about GBO each year. There’s a pretty good write up I found online here, that I think is worth reading to get a better understanding of who GBO is. However I think in his latest installment, there’s definitely a little more to learn about GBO’s versatility… give it a listen…

Roberto feat Slap D & Zone Fam – Ama-Rulah (Remix)

Roberto

By now everyone knows about Zambian Roberto and his breatout hit “Amarula”. The record has taken it’s own life with crazy memes about the record all over. You cannot deny a hot record though.

Roberto is not slowing down on making the record go away and with typical Diddy fashion he enlists Slap D & Zone Fam for an Ama-Rulah (Remix). Anyone saying that Roberto is a one hit wonder has to listen to a few of his past records. The guy can make hit records.

For now enjoy “the remix”

Nazizi and Ginjah – Sunshine (**GetMziki Exclusive)

Nazizi_Ginjah_GetMziki

Kenyan artist Nazizi recently released a collaborative album with internationally reggae recording artiste Ginjah. I got a chance to get a hold of the album yesterday and been listening to it ever since.

It’s not everyday that you see such collabos especially when it comes to doing whole albums. The music in “Motherland” is amazing and classic material. I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes, but this album should be promoted heavily so people out there can experience what great music is in the album.

There are many outstanding classic great records in the album. I might do a review of the whole album in the next week or so. For now enjoy this one outstanding record “Sunshine” from the amazing album.

If you like good quality reggae music this is a must have cd in your collection. Go out and support the artists by purchasing their album on Amazon.

Necessary Noize – Bring Back the Noize

necesseary_Noise

Now this is a record that I’m happy to showcase and preview. It’s one of the few things that still make me listen to numerous records that we receive.

Necessary noise needs no introduction. The duo has really accomplished so much to really list them in this post. They both took a hiatus from the group thing and concentrated on their personal families and lives. Wyre continued to make consistent records and getting featured in worldwide distributed major riddims. Nazizi on the other had released a few dope records and stayed relevant by jumping on peoples records telling everyone out there that she was still doing the music thing

Fast forward to 2013 and ‘Bring back the noise” is the first offering from the duo. The song title really shows that they sat down and came up with a record that summarizes where they wanna go in the future. The best, lyrics, catchy hook and video all speak quality. This is a record that I’ve had on constant repeat in my music playlist. This record should definitely turn up any party!!!!

Enjoy

DNA Feat Mr Nice – Tafuta (***GetMziki Exlusive)

I just received a couple of records on my email and I’m going through them trying to see which ones deserves a post.

One of the first records that I believe deserve to be heard is this new banger from DNA featuring Mr Nice. From what’s I’ve heard, Tanzanian Mr Nice is making a push again with the music thing and re-launching his career in Kenya under Grandpa Records.

They wasted no time, went to the studio and the result is Tafuta a stright party anthem

Enjoy

Chiwawa – Millioni Kichwani (GetMziki Excluisve)

Chiwawa_GetMziki
Chiwawa is one of those artists that have great skill, dedication and appeal but have never really gotten the props they deserve. Maybe it’s their persistence to make music for the streets and avoid the straight to radio singles in fear of being labeled a sell-out. Could it also be that they do music as a side gig and they don’t really care about the album sales, show performance money and everything else that comes with making money in the music industry.

It’s something I have strongly insisted and preached and if you are an avid reader of the site, you know it’s one lane I see lacking in various artists who never really jump into that “underground” artist mentality to mainstream success. It’s a discussion that we always have with my fellow djs and artists.

Chiwawa has numerous records, videos and projects out there but how many people can attest to owning a full length album or project from him. How do you expect new fans to hold onto your music and get to know your story telling ability and your music making skills. The music world is built on singles which eventually push it into album sales and tours. One thing Chiwawa has to do is make his vast music catalog available to the masses in an easily acceptable format.

Over the past years he’s had decent records that just lacked the necessary push and promotion to make those songs into hit songs

Millioni Kichwani, produced by my friend, Babz on the Track is one of those dope records that will either find themselves in a record executives bin trash or end up in every djs and radio station music playlist. I’ll be curious to see how Chiwawa handles the promotion of the record

Collo Feat Abbas – Toboa

When seasoned veterans are showcased on GetMziki, it’s usually best to do it as a quick post as we’ve featured them before with numerous records.

On this record, Collo, King wa Rap grabs Abbas for a straight to playlist mixtape type of record. It’s a dope record that will find it’s ways in fans music databases.

Kus Ma ft Kanja – How High

Kus-Ma-ft-Kanja_How_High_GetMziki

Often, it’s the spontaneous tracks that spawn on to become great records. However the opposite side of the spectrum is also true. A perfect example is Kus Ma of Camp Mulla who grabs his comrade Kanja for some smokers themes record. The production on the record started right with Biggie sample but went down side really quick when the over used Kicks and snare combination that has been in a few Camp Mulla’s records came in.

I could see the record getting a few spins with the “How High” fans but for the crazed die hard hip hop fan, this is just another smoking rendition that we’ve heard countless times.

Khaligraph Jones – F@ck Off (GetMziki 2012 Freshman)

Khaligraph_Jones_Get_Mziki

We featured Khaligraph Jones as part of the 2012 Freshman class and he’s been so busy during the first quarter of the year making us ecstatic of what the remainder of the year holds for him. I keep on stressing that if you haven’t really downloaded “The Khaligraph Jones Chronicles” you need to do so.

Like I said before, he’s one of the future stars of Kenyan Hip Hop. He has an amazing body of work and all is missing from the pie is the breakthrough single. Here is what I said about K. Jones when I posted the “Best” track

Khaligraph already has the body of work. 2chainz said it really well. “I noticed when people get in the game they come with the song then they gotta come with a body of work to complement the song. With me, I had the body of work, I just had to come up with the song.”

This is definitely a great record that will get constant spins and win new fans for K. Jones.

Enjoy!!!!

Banky W ft L Tido, Camp Mulla, Vector, & Sarkodie — African

Banky W ft L Tido, Camp Mulla, Vector, & Sarkodie — African

There are numerous artist who’ve made records embracing where there’re from and this is an addition to all the various records out there. I’ve talked about it in the past that after so many records you gotta give it a different spin or tackle the subject matter In a different way. I’m just too tired and it seems clique to currently have records titled “African Girl”, African Boy”, Mama Africa and many more.

This record from Nigerian Banky W is an addition to the many out there It’s not a bad record, I just wish it had a different subject matter. The record features the who’s who in the African music scene , from Kenya’s Camp Mulla, Vector from Nigeria, Sarkodie from Ghana and L Tido from South Africa.

Nikki Feat Taio Tripper – Feelin Good (GetMziki Exclusive)

Nikki

With so many people getting into the music industry, it’s soetimes so hard to keep track of who’s who unless the music is really good or they bring something new to the table. On the flip side we’ve seen great artists with good music not having a proper management team leading to the record not getting the necessary push or just plain mismanagement.

Nikki is a classic example of a great artist with a bright future but she still has to go back and read “Music promotion 101”. It’s 2013 and for you to have a lasting impression you need to push your record and one way of doing this is giving the fans and djs out there free music. I’ve still never understood how artists have a record they are promoting on Soundcloud and disable the download link. Hopefully she will slowly learn how the music industry works…..

“Fellin Good” is a dope record that fatures Taio Tripper from Camp Mullah and super guitarist Izzoh.. The record was produced by Decimal Media’s Musyoka and is the first single off DragonFly, Nikki’s second album.

Rabbit Feat Chess – Pole (GetMziki Exclusive)

Rabbit Get MzikiOne of the things we’ve always pioneered and encouraged here at GetMziki is breaking new artists. When we first showcased Rabbit with Jam Nacome three years ago, most people might have skipped through the post with a shrug. Fast forward to the present and Rabbit is a force to reckon with in the music industry in Kenya Africa.

Various artists always hit me up for advice and one thing I always try and enforce on them is that “show money” is the best money. Creating that catalog for touring is the best investment you can have. That is why artists like Madonna, Lady Gaga, Ab-Soul and any more can tour all year round and with no “radio friendly” single playing.

Rabbit is one of those artists we showcased on our “Get Mziki New Artists Review” who’s embraced that concept and built his brand and touring catalog to great heights. I love the fact that he’s also story telling and keeping his fans glued with his ‘Dodoma (Betty) series.

Enjoy this records from Rabbit!!!!

I’ve made it my personal goal to showcase some great music coming from the coast region which meant me hooking up with a great street connect in the coast region.

Shaa – Promise (**GetMziki Exclusive)

When we get records and with the vast songs we’ve featured , we sometimes have to do a search and see if we’ve featured the artists before. This usually happens for artists who release records sporadically throughout the years.

One of the artists is Shaa. When I looked at the past GetMziki posts I realized I had featured her 3 years ago as part of the “Artist Spotlight” series with the track “Shoga“. Here is what I had to say about Shaa on the post which still holds true today.

” If this is the first time you’re hearing about Shaa, be ready to hear tons of her amazing work in the next coming years”.

I’m really feeling this record. Enough said!!!!

Kidis ft DNA,Wyre, Ameleena -Twajichaganya (Remix)

Kidis

It’s been a month since the new year started and by the look of things, veteran musicians and record companies have been slow in releasing records giving room for the new breed of hustlers to dominate the market. The music itself is great which speaks volumes on the direction they are going.

One of the new record labels that I endorsed earlier last year is Grand pa records. From DNA’s Maswali Ya Polisi to Chapa / Fimbo Ya Pili , the record label is on a great positive roll. They re-released this record which is from Kidis who is originally from Tanzania but moved to his base to Mombasa. Currently signed to Grandpa Records, Kamua leo was a hit in the coastal region and he rcently released the remix to the track. According to his Bio page “Kidis was born in 1980 in Tanga Tanzania, i have been doing music since 2002, so far i have recorded 2 album, 1st album Class teacher apparently am working on my 2nd album “Kamua Leo”.

The remix to “Twajichaganya/Kamua Leo” finds an all star assembly of DNA, Wyre and Ameleena. This is a record that will definitely do well. Give it a few spins and let us know what you think of the track
