Nyota Ndogo feat Amelina – Nalia

I have some quick posts for the week that I need to make, starting with this new Nyota Ndogo and Amelina collaboration. Part of the on going Bernsoft Music Initiative to put out music, which I like the fact that Vinnie Banton actually produced/Composed this track. If you recall Vinnie was part of a group with Mr. Googz who dropped the infamous “githurai” track. So for me its kinda cool to see artists reinvent themselves and still work behind the sound boards to make things happen.

Sauti Sol on Reuters

Normally we dont post news articles or videos fuwaaaa!! but I think its worth noting that Sauti Sol is going places. I am still slightly confliced with the genre term, Afro Soul, Afro neo soul, Kenyan Urban Soul – GetMziki came up with Rythm & Zouk which we think fits well within these types of music genre.

However this video from Reuters does enough justice to this music group that we have been featuring and bickering about that everyone check em out and buy yourself an album. Currently through Getmziki we have been able to push almost 30 request for the album. feel free to hit us up for a copy, whether you are in the US or in Kenya – Penya Records has services across the globe with various partnerships.

Brand New: Harry Kimani feat Abbas – Happiness (GetMziki Exclusive **)

image courtesy of Harry Kimani Myspace

We have been documenting a lot of Abbas over the last few months, so much that his latest entry on the site featured the same artists he seems to be supporting on this track. Murume (Juu ya Laa) just happens to be my best track so far from Abbas this year, I look forward to replacing that song on my ipod.

This is some new heat from Harry Kimani, or off Harry Kimani’s upcoming album. I’ve always been a fan of HK, only that I felt his Bhangi would hold him down too fast too soon. I understand he is off that shit these days, but HK is one of the most talented vocalist in Kenya. When he dropped Waithera – it was like whoa! basss the official Kikuyu chic magnet song was out. Every chile wanted to be called Waithera so that the song could be dedicated to them. However funny enough I dont like the name Waithera – I like Njambi instead or Njoki – those are classic Kikuyu names.. even Njeri although thats too common. But I digress sorry…

I like this song, its mellow its interesting and its a good weekend track – its not Harry’s best work nor Abbas but it will pass for being featured here and being acclaimed. Give it a listen.
