Chidi Benz Feat Nonini – Get Down

Chidi Benz

We’ve featured Tanzanian Chidi Benz on the site numerous times and he’s one of the few artists that have a special folder dedicated for his music on my ipod. He’s one of the few Bongo lyricists that have never really gotten the props they deserve although their catalog spans numerous great records.

Fast forward to 2013 and word is that Chidi Benz has been fighting some addiction and one of the supporters whose helping him get clean and offering him support is Nonini. “Get Down” is a single from the duo as Chidi gores through his life’s journey…

Prof Jay Feat Chidi Benz – Msilie

Its time we took it back to the streets. This time we take it to Tanzania with a street anthem from Prof Jay called “Msilie”. The new single featuring Bongo heavy weight Chidi Benz was produced by Lamar at Fishcrab records. For those who are into production, listen to the intro where it draws you in instantly and the various change up’s in the beat. Hot!!!!

Prof Jay who is currently touring the US, has been featured before on GetMziki and his music catalog is so huge to really name all the classics he has. He’s a pioneer in the Bongo Music scene and many artists look up to him as a guide of making it in the music industry. Just to vent a little bit, I get so mad when promoters bring African based artists for tours in the US and always insist on “promoting” thier shows by using one or two of thier current songs and videos as the “template” of the artist’s music, which really blinds the average consumer into thinking that the artists only have those songs in thier music catalog. I’ve seen it so many times on Facebook and promoters websites and it’s a trend that is really hurting the artists, while in fact most of the artists have tons of hit songs on thier belt.

If you really follow Bongo music, you already know the weight Prof. Jay holds in Tanzania. The awards he has won are also just to many to mention but include the 2004 Tanzania Music Awards for Best Hip Hop Album “Mapinduzi Halisi”, the 2006 Tanzania Music Awards for Best Song “Nikusaidiaje”, the 2007 Kisima Music Awards for Best Ugandan Song “Sivyo Ndiviyo” with Chameleone, the 2009 Tanzania Music Awards for Best Songwriter and many more.

This track is an anthem in the streets and although its not your typical “club track” it’s a great record. For all the people out there who still like “non radio” station playlist songs and like that street edgy music, enjoy this one. Listen to the lyrics on this song to really appreciate the track.

Enjoy!!!

Nonini Feat Mahatma, Frasha, Bonnie, Gabu and Chidi Benz – Kadhaa (Remix)

I will start off this weeks mixtape Friday, with Nonini’s Kadhaa remix. This song is not new (It came out last year in July last year), but the video just came out this week and someone hit me up asking for this track. The Remix features Mahatma, Frasha, Bonnie, Gabu and Chidi Benz. I cannot really say too much about this song since it’s a hot track!!!!. One thing I promised myself is that in 2010 I will let some songs talk to the readers and listeners. The crazy and great punchlines from all the artists are just too many for me to mention but I gotta say that Mahatma and Frasha killed it crazy!!!!!!.
Mahatma did it for me when he says “Sijaona kitu ya bure tangu maziwa ya Nyayo”.

Nonini has also embraced the net really well in terms of pushing his music. and videos. Like he always says ‘Big Idea”. Check out what he wrote on his youTube page about the video

“Another Pro Habo/ Big ideas joint…..actually we did this video as a joke! We were shooting Chidi’s video for chaguo langu and since he was in town, nonini and willie came up with this simple concept of Kadhaa remix. Why not shoot the video while the boys are chilling watching the original on a back ground screen. INITIALLY this video wasnt meant for tv but it came out so superbly we decided why not release it on air…..The boys kama kawa out did themselves big up kila mtu ule ali contribute to this project! Big up Mash Auto for hooking us up with the LIMO!….”

Chidi Benz feat Ray C – Baby (GetMziki Exclusive ****)

Chidi Benz

Chidi Benz is probably the hottest Tanzanian artist in the game right now. Actually let me rephrase that – CHIDI IS THE HOTTEST in the game right now as far as GetMziki is concerned. His raspy voice, crazy lyrical flow allow him to pretty much sit in charge of East Africa when it comes to commanding Bongo Flava. I understand he is notoriously known for bad manners and sort of an arrogant demeanor but lets face it, which rapper doesn’t have any arrogant qualities??

I personally like Chidi’s music, its bold its “in your face” its loud – this is probably the first track that I have heard that is probably mellow and has a more laxed mood to it. Alvin sent this track months ago but we slept on it, typically Bongo tracks are posted faster than any other East African tracks. However my man Alvin has been busy and working on getting his A game up. Either way it feels as though we will have a Tanzania week to start the year off because we seem to have gotten a lot of new Bongo music and Taarab so we still need to find a strategy to share all this music.

All in all enjoy this Chidi Benz track featuring another Bad Girl on the hook – Ray C.

Baby J feat Chidi Benz – Nitembee Mbele (GetMziki Exclusive ***)

chidi_benz

We tried to find an image that could at least show face of Baby J who we think is going to be the next Tanzanian rising star but to no avail. So we decided to pretty much put up the co-star of this classic Bongo track – Mr. Chidi Benzino. This track is not particularly new, it dropped some time late last year and DJ Dona showcased it in his Bongo celebrity mix, however we never really posted any of the track she put up on that mixtape so we figured it would be important to start of the year with all these hot tracks that have been flying around on mixtapes but no one seems to have a copy.

There isn’t a lot of information available on Baby J, but there are a bunch of remixes and collaborations that feature the prominent voice or the man that its inevitable he will become the next stable name. We are banking on this cat being the next Ali Kiba – although the Baby J name doesnt really sound like a strong brand.

Either way here is a super Bongo track from Baby J featuring Chidi Benz.

Berry Black Feat Chidi Benz – Mfalme (GetMziki Exclusive)

berryblackyes

We haven’t featured Zenji artist Berry Black on GetMziki before so this is going to be a first. Berry hails from Zanzibar and is considered the King of Zenji Flava which is hip hop music combined with a variety of Zanzibar sounds. Berry Black hails from the islands most renowned family of artists. Some of his achievements are; his debut album winning an award for “Best Album of the Year at the 2008 Zanzibar Music Awards, and his song “Na Wewe Tu” winning an award for ‘Best Song of the Year’ at the 2007 Zanzibar Music Awards. Berry has tons of tracks and one of my favorites is the song “Utamu wa Penzi” that he did with Ali Kiba.

On this 2009 new track, he enlists the king of collabos aka Bongo’s Busta Rhyme’s aka Chidi Benz for a hot “mfalme” song.

Enjoy!!!!

Brand New: Chidi Benz – Chaguo langu (GetMziki Exclusive ****)

Chidi Benz

I read an email and then an article in last weeks Zuqka magazine that was talking about how one of the Kenyan artist based in the US was dissatisfied with the amount of promotion Kenyan artists based in the US get in East Africa vs the amount of promotion the East African artists get in the US. He cited the problem to be on disgruntled DJ’s and other personalities that didn’t take initiative to support Kenyan artistry in the US.

To me – or let me rephrase… Personally I don’t like that word “SUPPORT”. I believe no one should support anyone. You should buy, listen or play music because its GOOD, period. We don’t maintain this website because we support African artists. We sustain this website based on the basic premise that most of the music we feature here is GOOD music. So I am conflicted by the recent uproar as much as I may agree with him slightly I think his argument was a little far fetched in that I think if you have good music people wont ignore it – PERIOD. I also think that Kenyan/African artists in the US need to focus on their markets – if you are based here, focus on this market, make yourself a star here – then no one in Kenya will ignore you. Thats why i embrace the whole Chava movement/ Vyba/ SkoolFiz and em – because they don’t care what the rest of the world thinks, they just do their thing (and frankly we feature the stuff we think is good). (I mean I don’t think TOD is worried about doing a gig in Kenya anytime soon 🙂 )

This is by no means a disrespect to the people who are not feeling Kenyan DJs or East African media companies for ignoring their music. This is simply me saying that you can do without them – if you focus on your craft in the US, you can live off this market without even noticing where Kenya is. One of my good friends called Victor Silah is a Kamba who successful flourishes in the American market – http://victorsila.com/. Victor loves Kenya but he understands his music is for a different market and out here he is a star. People like Shu, Knaan, Corneille, Bamboo and em the list is endless…

Having said that, I am inclined to debut this brand spanking new Chidi Benz which is just plain good music. I don’t know Chidi Benz nor do I know who his cousin is – but what I do know is the man just keeps making good music. This track produced by Lemar is a killer track – nice mellow, jazzy – yet still BONGO. My man Rashid “msanii wa kizazi kipya” is just one terrific artist. I strongly believe if you have such an ear for sound, a talent for lyrics and a persona for the masses then there is no stopping you.

Enjoy this KILLER track from Tanzania

Mangwair Feat Chidi Benz- Speed I20(Get Mziki Exclusive)

Albert Mangwair aka Mangwea, Mangwair, Ngwea or Ngwair has been featured on Getmziki before (Click here), so I will just go straight to the songs “Speed 1-20 and “Nipe Deal” / “Nipe Dili”.  I’m sure all my Bongo fans will be happy with this post.

I had started writing the post for the “Nipe Deal” song when my Tanzanian contacts emailed me the “Speed 120” song which I have been trying to find a good copy for a few weeks now. The song is currently a street anthem in TZ and slowly bubbling to the charts.  On “Speed 120”, he enlists the help of Chidi Benz (One of my favourite artists In TZ right now ) for a perfect blend and collabo. “Nipe deal” is a song that has been bubbling on the underground for a minute and its now spreading like world fire. Mangwair just recently wrapped up shooting the videos for the songs, which should take the songs to higher heights. I know I will be adding “speed 120” on my serato and rocking it at my shows.

Enjoy the tracks!!!!!!!

Brand New: P-Unit Feat Chidi Benz – Posa

image courtesy of Chidi Benz & DJ Dona

When I got this song on my email from my Tanzania contacts last Wednesday, I was Like P- Unit Feat Chidi Benz. Ok. I was just curious to listen to the final product. The song had no title and I have to thank Facebook and The P-Unit Crew since I was told the song was called “Posa”. Is it just me but the title should have been “Acha Mimi” which was the part of the chorus that stuck in my head.

Now the quality is not all that good , but it’s still workable. My contacts sent me 96Kbps and my advice- TO ALL ARTISTS: is Please send us at least 128Kbps quality mp3’s and clearly label them .

We at Getmziki are all about introducing the people to new talent from across the Africa Continent and Chidi Benz represents that good quality consistent music. I have been following Chidi Benz career for a while now and if you haven’t listened to his past hit singles just check out the current street anthem “Dar Stand Up” or the song “Bado Umenuna” Featuring Marlaw and I’m sure when you do you will be like “Getmziki” is where I get my latest music.

The song is a Mandugu Digital productions which speaks volumes of their productions. The beat was on point and on the first listen the chorus was on point. The song is a sure club hit but I didn’t really hear any strong punchlines or lyrics to make me go like “OK” or even press the rewind button again. On the flip side the collabo is great and unique in its own way.
