DTR – I love the 80’s

Every now and then when I am in a bad mood I go to DJ Dyme’s soundcloud account and I get some uplifting. This week this particular mix put me in my place and helped restore my faith in 80’s dance music. Enjoy this mix because the song selection really couldn’t be indicative of a time and place where most of us were in a mathree or in a club in Kenya. Dj Paco was the king of 80’s man…

DJ Dyme – Afrikan Connect Mix

Take Over DJs – DJ Dyme is one little dude whose energy is a little electrifying. At first glance you really cant tell that Dyme is a DJ (not that most DJs have a look and feel) but I am just saying Dyme is a short dude, I am used to hanging out with some intimidating looking jamas ha ha ha. Am just kidding. The amazing thing about Dyme is that he is just a humble dude – I cant take anything away from him. I always post his mixes because I think he brings something unique and different to the market place. I haven’t posted any of his work for a long time because I felt like he was going through a phase I couldn’t relate to. He scratched too much, he dropped his name in between mixes almost every 30 seconds and the mixes had too much sound effects.

However when you listen to Afrikan connect you can almost feel the maturity in the sets and the growth of the breadth of music. These are the types of African Mixtapes that I like and truthfully I am dropping it today because I think its a must have. Its a simple clean meaningful mix that sums up my last 5 months in the African Urban Music scene. Its that simple.

Without further due – ITS DYME TIME BABY!!!

DJ Dyme – Dymetime Radio (East African Mix)

I’ve never heard DJ Dyme play live nor have I ever had the opportunity to listen to any of his mixes but the funny thing is that this cat has more face value than any other DJ right now. He is always on some flyer somewhere or some website and or an event. (Thats some good marketing and branding by the way Dyme – when an individual has more face value than recognition value – in this industry that goes a long way).

So when he submitted this mixtape I was like wow finally I’ll get to sample some of Dymes work, I actually was keen to say the least to post this mix and also to listen to some of the blends he might have. Truthfully the tracklist is standardized its the same shit you will get from all the other 30 Mixtapes we get submitted on GetMziki, however the one thing that made me post this mixtape is that LAST SONG ON the mix…. SHIT.. that song is FIRE (Dyme send me that song).

K-Teezy and Politiq F&*K you guys murdered that Auto Tune and the beat is so fresh – I cant lie, F&*k it – that ngoma is on FIRE…. I admire how you guys have a DJ that pushes your music, you have established a good network of people, entertainers, producers and aggregators that supports the whole engine. I salute the efforts – the Kenyan American thing is coming whether guys like it or not… Dyme that was a good look… That song makes me think anyone can do what Lil Wayne does…

Vyba and Kaulaz featuring Redsan – International Beauty

The first time I heard this track was on the TOD website, I didn’t know what to make out of it for a while. It took me a few more days to figure out that Chava is a producer and the other guys are actually artists. The second time I heard the song was on a TOD mixtape on my way to some Cafe 111 or something in Atlanta, then I coincidentally bumped into the gang doing video interviews and stuff – I didn’t pay so much attention because I was hungry at the time but needless to say I didn’t connect the song with the guys at the restaurant.

But let me be honest here, Chava as a producer is onto something great here – the beats are a youthful blend of Kapuka (Genge) whatever you call it but his production skills seem to capture a lot of what Kenya seems to churn out. Vyba as an artist is probably the most promising Kenyan artist in US I think if serious could possibly break this industry in the US. Kaulaz and Vintiqueezy i’d have to listen to more material from them but thats just my two cents. This track is a nice mellow track that REDSAN blessed. If you watch the making of the video you can see the excitement in the crews eyes to actually have REDSAN on a track! Those home videos keep me on youtube all day fellaz uwongo mbaya – I wish I could see how many other songs were made.

So far I would personally give this track a 6 out of ten, I apologize for sleeping on the track but Chava guarantees that there is more heat from the kitchen coming soon. On that note we are throwing this track on Eves countdown show on Capital FM. Lets see what the rest of Kenya thinks about it.
