A little throwback Thursdays….
We will start posting a few throwback records on Thursdays, just tfor people out there who might have missed the post or to remind everyone out there about the great music from the EA region….
See below for what we said back then about the record
This is new audio that’s coming from the Grand Pa record stable. I’ve shred with everyone why I feel that the record stable is the number one record company in Kenya currently. The great records coming from that camp sepaks volumes of their hustle.
Sudi Boy is a artist from Mombasa and apart from that I don’t have so much on him. His Facebook page sheds no light on “who” he is. On that aspect, Sudi Boy fails big time. It’s time artists stepped up on ensuring their online presence is immaculate.
“Naona Bado” is a record that goes hard and features Amileena popularly known from the Tusker Project Fame days. When people tell me that we don’t have great records coming from the Kenyan region, this record proves everyone out there that artists in Kenya need to stop copying other regions music and sounds and instead find a lane and niche and stick with it. “Naona Bado” is a classic example of great records coming from Kenya…

With so many things going on, this September issue of Promo Only comes a few weeks late, but better late than never.
With so many artists and tons of records being released on a weekly basis, it’s sometimes so hard to fully enjoy and digest records. Added with the hundred of records we receive from artists, we started having a monthly showcase of songs that we sifted through to find the cream of the crop that we believe deserve a few spins. The result is a 18-track compilation with a few bonus tracks. We showcase tons of records on a weekly basis and with everyone being busy with their daily lives, we decided to start showcasing records that are exclusive releases, chart setters, songs that will be future hits, present hits and everything else in between. Consider this as a music playlist to keep you abreast on what’s popping especially in the East African music scene.”

Susumila is a Mombasa based artists and he currently has one of the hottest record out there now in Mombasa. It’s rather amazing to also hear and follow the coastal region music and I will be sharing more on the music coming from that region. More like a “Mombasa Mondays” series.
Yusuf Kombo was born on April 30, 1983 in Mombasa Kenya. He is also known as SUSUMILA “. He is from the streets of Bombolulu Bankhead Zone. His original stage name, Kanali It stem from his childhood nickname given by his peer. He later changed it to Susumila. He gradually established himself as one of rap’s greatest and most successful MCs during the early 2000s.
Susumila has release two albums “Ngangari” and “Haki Iko Wapi!” which proved successful for him Both albums sold well and produced some impressive hit singles, but these singles — “Niko Ngangari” and “nawaka,” were blatantly targeted at the mass market with their pop-rap tendencies and further increased Susumila more loyal fan base. Susumila has been active with community awareness especially with political / youth empowerment.

When we started doing this compilation, we strongly knew that
we wanted a good representation of artists across Kenya and not just one region. We faced numerous setbacks in trying to get artists from across various regions and we’re hoping things to improve for next years list. Ohzy is one of the 254 Freshman 2012 TOP 10 class list and representing the coast province. He’s been on the grind and cemented a loyal following on the strength of some of his musical catalog.
Why You Should Care: Ohzy’s has created his own following especially in the coastal region with various records getting constant radio play, show performances and getting song features with some big artists. He also has a major song catalog which shows his drive to consistently stay in the studio. His signature swahili raps and punch lines also make it easier his music cross over to neighbouring Tanzania and other regions.
Notable Releases: Tumerauka, Bogeni, Nishapenda, So nice, Ligi Ya mapenzi
Next Steps: Ohzy needs to slowly spread his wings across the coast region and get some features with various artists across the country. With the number of records under his belt, the time is right for him to release his official album or an EP .
Missing pieces to improve on: . Like a few of the other top 10 artists, he needs to make his music more accessible, exploit soundcloud, Twitter and reverbnation to the max, increase distribution by also getting his content to different blogs both outside and inside Kenya.
