Dr Sid – Something About You

Mo Hit records is a record company/label comprised of D’Banj, Wande Coal, Don Jazzy, Dr Sid, Kay Switch and Da prince that is owned by Don Jazzy. You can call it the “Interscope” of Naija music.Out of the stable is the rising superstar Dr Sid. The doctor part is just not a stage name but he’s a real dental surgeon. Talk about music passion!!!!

SID was born Sidney Onoriode Esiri on the 1st of May 1980, into an entertainment family. His mother was a successful fashion designer and his father was the legendary actor Justus Esiri famous for his role as the Village Headmaster.

He has been quietly bubbling on the charts and on this record he shows us why he’s the the next one to blow up on the Mo hits record stable. The kid got some heat including this track with D’Banji ‘Pop Something” that is also fire!!!. On a side note most of us have been listening to “Don Jazzy” beats but never really knew who produced the records. He’s a genuis when it comes to the boards. Just listen to D’ Banji’s “fall in love” on the intro section.

Enjoy!!!

Jay Martins – Oyoyo (GetMziki Naija Exclusive ***)

Naija has this new thing called Proudly Nigerian that’s been going around many products produced and developed in Nigeria. I had to yank this image from Mighty Mike (big up by the way for all the massive Naija tunes). But if you notice that CD it has a small Niaja logo and flag – proudly Naija. It just made me wonder what happened to BRAND Kenya – and the elusive dream of branding Kenyan products – Proudly Kenyan?

Anyway – Not too many people know or have heard of Jay Martins, but the singer/ producer was the man behind the “Good or Bad” hit a while back. Anyway he is back at it again with this big tune titled OYOYO – this is BIG TUNE. Trust me this track has Naija buzzing like whoa! First time I heard it I knew this was a banger – so am blessing GetMziki with this hit.

Enjoy the track

Naija Music : Duncan Daniels – Show Stoppa

duncan_daniels

The minute T-Pain came out with auto tune (vocoder) he should have realised that 110 other artists were going to cap his style and amplify it. This is not to say that the auto tune was never used before T-Pain, I think Pain just brought it to the lime light more than any other urban artist.

If you take into consideration what many African artists are doing now, its no wonder we are churning out more songs than ever before. Essentially technology has allowed us to mask our vocal capabilities and implore good beats but mediocre vocals and the people will still consume the music. Take for instance this Naija wonder called Duncan Daniels. He brings a unique style into the industry, a very diverse artiste offering a mix of pop, rock and R&B to suit the modern urban radio era.

Duncan also happens to be a producer and a song writer, who has been at the top of his game since he was 25 years old. Currently working on his sophomore album it appears Daniels may be onto something thanks to vocoders :-). I personally think Naija music is going places but the success is very short term, unless something extraordinary happens within the urban music space. But for now if your country has about 120 million people – why do you need to tour or go anywhere else coz your market is right at home

MI feat Y.Q – Area (GetMziki Naija Exclusives ***)

yq

I wanted to end the day with some heat from Naija to break the Ugandan monotony we had going on. This is urban African music people – this is real African Hiphop, these are our stories being told in our way…

Naija Music is on the rise and am feeling all this talent coming from the West of Africa.

Enuff said for now – feel this heat.

2 Face – Swallow your Pride (GetMziki Exclusive **)

2face1

Probably one of the more or most successful Naija artists right now (Nigerian Artists). 2 Face has a string of hits in the past, thats until P-Square came into the scene and just took the world by storm with their IFUNANYA tracks. However there is something about 2Face that if you pay close attention to you will be like – yeah I understand why he could possibly be the King Naija music.

This track is not very new, it was released last September (2008) but I cant help but put it on heavy rotation on my ipod. I cant lie right now I am loving this whole Naija movement and the music coming from Nigeria. All the stereo types to me have been wiped out. Considering the fact I never really got into the whole Nollywood movement (Nigerian Movies). It seems like they have gotten me hooked with their infectious accents and crazy beats – Ifunanya… This song is fire, swallow your pride, I am feeling IRIEEE!! Baby boo!! Why lie – I will say it again, Naija music is going to make the whole of Africa up their game – I mean KWAITO has gone cold after these guys started making urban hits… Enough said.

(ps. listen to the end when 2face acts a fool on the track hilarious… having fun with the track and still staying fresh)

Brand New: IGHO ft Terry G – I Got Da Perff (Shayo Yapa)

igho

Our new contacts are starting to prove themselves undoubtedly the kings in Naija music, I like the fact that we get to sample all these hits and then pick the ones that we think will cross over. Over the few months we have been slowly trying to expose our audience to a larger breadth of music, we believe the fact that Naija tunes are growing at a phenomenal rate and the quality of the music is ten times better than average African tracks – this will make the overall African Urban music market up its game.

Our partners dropped this brand new IGHO joint called I got da Perff. The song is on fire, high energy, octane type of shit. Igho is not only a song writer, director or producer he also is spitting these Naija rhymes and its turning out to be a killer combination. Terry G is another aspiring killer artists in Nigeria but this collaboration is what we been talking about – Naija music is taking over Africa, it doesnt even matter if you cant understand the language – the shit just sounds damn good, makes you want to move something in your body.

Brand New: Cindy feat P-Square – You Me

Blu 3

Cindy Sanyu was the cake of Blu 3 (the popular pop stars group from Uganda). The reason I say she was the cake apparently she was the sexiest of the crew I am not sure why but that was the word on the streets. Personally I had my eyes on the other thick (thunder thighs) Blu 3 chic am not sure what her name was. Needless to say this is Cindy’s solo project and she had to go get the best of the best – P-Square.

Currently P-Square is asking for 50,000 USD to pull of a show in Africa and in the US. Based on how African (Kenyan) promoters do business in the US, you can continue holding you breath because there is no way anyone here is going to come up with that cash. Sounds hard to believe but thats what my sources say.

Blu 3 have been known to do plenty of big things, I think many Ugandas are like Luo’s – they tend to want to do big things – look at Chameleon, Bobby Wyne and the likes… So its not anything our of the ordinary to see Cindy pull off a big collaboration such as this one. However sources also tell me that those P-Square Naijas are really cool peeps. They seem to have embraced working with virtually any artists from the African region so it might be a good thing for them in the long run. Their brand has been expanding exponentially over the last few months. So big ups to anyone in the pipeline to get blessed with a P-Square collaboration.

Here is the interesting joint…
