P-Square – Forever (****GetMziki Exclusive)

P-Square just released a couple of singles a few weeks ago in preparation for their new album. In the current music market, artists release a couple of singles to really see what fans out there cling to and then release the video to go along with the chosen single. I hav been listening to the new singles and the “forever” track has been one of the tracks that I have been listening to on a regular basis.

P-Square are riding on the strength of giving the fans what they enjoy most. The catchy chorus and quality production create the sound many have come to expect from P-Square.You cannot really fail to see that this amazing duo is here to stay and “Forever” is one of those tracks that people wil be bumping to heavy in the next couple of months.

Enjoy!!!!!

Bracket Feat 2Face- Yori Yori Remix (GetMziki Exclusive)

I have been MIA for a while now taking care of some business, but we are back now. Thanks to Leo, Alvin and Louis for taking care of all the updates.

I got this track like 3 weeks ago and although we showcased it on the “Homepage“, many people go directly to the blog and most likely might have missed the song.

I showcased the original Bracket “Yori Yori” way before it became a hit and people everywhere have been going wild when this song comes on. I’m really glad they came out with the remix which features Naija heavyweight 2face who did a couple of tour spots in the US a few months ago, since although the original is a banger, after so many spins and after every other Dj playing this track 2-3 times a night, the song has really been “overplayed”. This remix has been out for like 3 weeks now and its already on the charts in major Naija radio stations.

My sources tell me that Bracket is actually gearing up for the release of thier second album and the ” Yori Yori” remix is the first single off the album. This song was produced and recorded at Giant Beats Studios, Abuja by hit producer Dekumzy. The remix is a different song altogether and features a new beat plus 2Face on the track. I wanna see if djs jump on this track just like they did the other one.

Enjoy!!!!!

Justina- Radio DJ (GetMziki Exclusive)

We have featured Justina from Naija in the site before with the club banger “Omo Too Sexy“. The song enjoyed massive airplay and rotation both locally and abroad during its drop and remains people’s  favourite as a heavy club banger even till this date.

With her astonishingly powerful and variable voice, Justina combines different elements from Jazz, R&B, Soul, Hip Hop and Afrobeat to her very own style. In her songs which she composes largely herself she evokes her relentless love for life but also touches on pressing social issues such as poverty, corruption, struggling kids and the treatment of women in Africa.

On this track she talks about her love for a radio dj. The question is which one ????

I’m really feeling this track and I wanna know what people out there think.

P-Square- Danger (GetMziki Exclusive)

Psquare1

The Naija duo of P-Square just released their new album “Danger” a couple of weeks ago and as everybody knows the whole of Africa was waiting to see what they were going to come up with on the new disc. I got a chance to listen to the whole album a couple of times and on this album it seems the duo really never went out to create music from their hearts but were following a “formula” . It seems the “formula” for the new album was have a couple of club records(“Danger”, “Break It”, “Trowley”) then have a couple of records for the ladies(‘I Love You”, ‘Like Dat”) and a few collabo’s. Don’t get me wrong, the album is “classic brilliant” P-Square material but they really do not push the musical envelope like on their previous albums.

The new album has 10 tracks with 3 instrumentals and the amazing part is that the first song on the album “I love you” is my favourite track . Its one of those tracks that really take you back to P-Square’s musical strengths. The duo also enlists the help of 2face on the track “Possiblities” and the duo of J Martins on the track “N No Easy”.

On their first single”danger”, the duo goes hard on the 120BPM range beat by showcasing their musical growth on the first single. It seems that everybody is now doing tracks in the 120BPM range, right from Blu 3, Mad Traxx, Birdman, Jay Sean, The Dream, Shakira to BEP and the fact that 8 songs out of the top 10 songs on the billboard are on that BPM range gives an insight on the “in thing” in music today. I guess its just a matter of riding with the flow.

This song is definitely going to be driving the clubs crazy in the next couple of months. I’m sure most djs will be adding this in their Serato crates on the first listen, since no party is a party with no new P-Square jam.
Enjoy!!!

Bracket – Yori Yori and No Time Feat P-Square

bracket_img

I had promised I was going to post some of the songs driving the clubs/radio/streets crazy in Kenya. One of the other song is by the Nigerian group Bracket with the song “Yori Yori”. Apparently, Yori Yori” means “Sweetness” in the Igbo language and this song packs the dance floors in a major way. The song is not necessarily new, but has been ruling the charts in Naija land for the last couple of months. The Enugu born duo who started off as a trio group were brought together by music at the University of Nigeria and with their style, swagger and musical ability its only a matter of time before they become megastars since they are already superstars across Africa.

I got a chance to get a copy of their album “Least Expected” and the songs on the album are pure fire!!!!!. They have a couple of hit singles on the album, but surprisingly enough their first two singles were “Yori Yori” and “No time” ft P-square. My favorite tracks on the album however are “Gossip” and “All my People” which clearly bring out Bracket’s vocal skills and artistic ability.

Since I’m showcasing Bracket, I decided to hit up the readers with a double dose of their hit singles “Yori Yori” and ‘No Time”.

Enjoy!!!!

Streets Are Mine: Part 3. KE/TZ/UG/NG Music

streetsaremine496

Streets are Mine is a street album series showcasing music from KE/TZ/UG/NG that are making rounds in the clubs, radio and the streets . On this latest project, working with Dan Mixa we did a lot of research, took various requests from people, and the final product was a song catalog from different artists and genres. We also showcased some of the gospel songs that are bangers in the clubs and added a couple of songs from various upcoming artists that are working hard in perfecting their craft but do not necessarily have a medium outlet to showcase their music. I will be showcasing some of the individual songs here at GetMziki in the next few weeks. Any requests for what songs I should showcase first?? Enjoy!!!!!

2Face Feat R-Kelly – Flex

2face2

I’ll start the post by saying that this is not a new song. This song has been out since December last year when I got it, amidst the crazy hype of the Naija media and street bootleggers going hysterical over the “historic” collabo.
On this track, 2Face enlists the help of megastar R. Kelly for an “international Flex” collabo, with R. Kelly handling the production duties where he samples Mad Cobra’s ‘Flex’. The reason I decided to share this song is to see what people out there think of the track. All I know is that many people had expected this to be the “song/collabo” of the year. I guess the jury is still out on this one. Enjoy!!!!!

Naija Music : Duncan Daniels – Show Stoppa

duncan_daniels

The minute T-Pain came out with auto tune (vocoder) he should have realised that 110 other artists were going to cap his style and amplify it. This is not to say that the auto tune was never used before T-Pain, I think Pain just brought it to the lime light more than any other urban artist.

If you take into consideration what many African artists are doing now, its no wonder we are churning out more songs than ever before. Essentially technology has allowed us to mask our vocal capabilities and implore good beats but mediocre vocals and the people will still consume the music. Take for instance this Naija wonder called Duncan Daniels. He brings a unique style into the industry, a very diverse artiste offering a mix of pop, rock and R&B to suit the modern urban radio era.

Duncan also happens to be a producer and a song writer, who has been at the top of his game since he was 25 years old. Currently working on his sophomore album it appears Daniels may be onto something thanks to vocoders :-). I personally think Naija music is going places but the success is very short term, unless something extraordinary happens within the urban music space. But for now if your country has about 120 million people – why do you need to tour or go anywhere else coz your market is right at home

Storm Records – All Star Freestyle (GetMziki Nigerian Exclusives)

storm_records_logo

I am still on this Naija shit, I am uploading this song specifically for Musyoka (Dr. Dre wa Kenya). Musyoka is a frequent GetMziki user and contributor. But I am sure if all the DJ’s on this site listened to this track you will automatically think two people created this genius work. 1. Eric Musyoka (Kenya). 2. Andre Romelle Young (Dr. Dre) USA. Actually let me take back that statement because this is a freestyle so the origin of the beat may be suspect.

This is an old Naija collaboration of the Storm Record artists – D’Banj, Naeto C, eLDee and Ikechukwu, it was featured on one of the Storm Records Mixtapes. What kills me about this track is not really that the beat is phat (its a very suspect Dre Beat) but its the fact that all the Naija artists killed the track – Dbanj’s freestyle in that classic Naija vernacular that brings the tracks essence to life.

It’s also interesting to realize that the whole Urban African Hiphop movement is very alive across the continent, basically there is a Dr. Dre and a Timbaland in Nigeria as much as in Kenya, Tanzania and other African countries… it fascinates me completely

Enjoy this weekend banger here.

P-Square – Ifunyanya

dru_with_psquare

I am going to do a pair of quick posts today since there is a back log we need to process this week which also included the DJ sets. One of my all time favorite songs is this P-Square song called Ifunanya. I believe Ifunanya means love in some Ibo or Yoruba language. But out of all their tracks, this is probably the track that I keep playing over and over again.
