Nonini ft Chris Adwar – L.A.T.T (Lonely At The Top)

I got this record a few days ago and I’ve been rocking to this non stop. Nonini has been in the music game for more than tean years and what better person let people know about fame, money and power and the constant struggles of life. I’ve said if before that Nonini is one of the few artists who describes his songs in a manner that makes fans and listeners understand his records more. Upcoming artists can learn alot from this.

According to Nonini

Power is coveted, sought, and tightly held onto. From the animals to human beings, power is the currency of success. However, the very nature of power and its effects (psychological) often leave the powerful feeling lonely at the top.

At the Top People have to deal with Angels & Demons. All that keeps them afloat is keeping the Faith.

Everyone wants to be at the Top! Fame,Money & Power but sometimes its Lonely At The Top….You might realize you don’t have True Friends,New Friends are all Fake. People around you might change or you may loose yourself and also change. Its a constant battle between good and bad….But all said and done! Its Great to be at the TOP!!!

Chidi Benz Feat Nonini – Get Down

Chidi Benz

We’ve featured Tanzanian Chidi Benz on the site numerous times and he’s one of the few artists that have a special folder dedicated for his music on my ipod. He’s one of the few Bongo lyricists that have never really gotten the props they deserve although their catalog spans numerous great records.

Fast forward to 2013 and word is that Chidi Benz has been fighting some addiction and one of the supporters whose helping him get clean and offering him support is Nonini. “Get Down” is a single from the duo as Chidi gores through his life’s journey…

Nonini-Kwama Nao (GetMziki Exclusive****)

We’ve a few songs the last couple of days and we are goin gto be posting them this week. First on the list is this new banger by Nonini. Having last week released the “Pole Pole” video, he unleashes his new single that is dedicated to the fans. According to Nonini, “today he had something special special for his Genge Fans. Anasema hata kama ameingia 30years with 12 years of experince in Genge Music. Bado ana Kwama Nao! Produced by Dilly and St P the track is a fusion of Crunk,Hop Hop and Genge. Talk about diversity….

This is what I like calling top down riding music while you get into whatever it is you like to do.

Happy belated Bday to Nonini.

As an added bonus here is the video to ‘Pole Pole” featuring Annette that was released last week

Nonini feat Chege & Lady B – Killa Moja (GetMziki Exclusive ****)

I rarely make a post with a video first but this one deserved all the accolades it could receive so I upload it instead of putting a picture of Nonini. Lets face it you already know how he looks like but I dont think many of us understand the amount of work and effort he puts into his career and craft. Last weekend Nonini blessed the Oakland Kenyan community with his presence and some of his greatest hits. Truthfully I have to admit this is the first concert of its type that I enjoyed – mostly because of the performance but also because of the set up and the entertainment value.

DJ Slim put together an accompanying band to help Nonini harp through his music from hit to hit, if the video above is not evidence enough of the delivery then I dont know what is. A lot of artists come to the US for show and tours but normally the entertainment value is just the same – its the same set up. One of the worst African shows I have ever been to is an AWILO LOGOMBA show where the dude started asking for money after 2 songs and had the audacity to get off the stage. In retrospect I blame the Promoters (pun intended) because if as a promoter you will let an artist do that to your credibility then you both have the same work ethic. However when an artists gives 110% by himself it’s always a refreshing break from the monotony. In fact the only thing that sucked about the Nonini show was the fact that by the time Nonini got on stage the bar had closed (do the math go figure). Either way DJ Slim out did himself this time round I have to admit – coz the Show was on point from start to finish – so big up to you and your crew – I hope you can maintain the responsibility that comes with successful shows!

That said, as usual I got a chance to hang with Nonini for a while catch up and of course yank this track from his HARD DRIVE. Nonini’s album is a must have and to me this TRACK number 8 of course produced by Musyoka is probably his biggest song thus far. I know many guys may not agree but I think by the time Pro Habo is done with the short film and music video they are doing for this song – EVERYONE will agree – KILLA MOJA is the Killa song in that album.

I cant say enough about Nonini I respect the man and love him not only as an artist but as a person… Tumetoka mbali – keep doing your thing.

ps. that chile in the video that says …. “BUT I LOVE GENGE” Killed me – TEN NIL… ha ha ha ha.. nilidie mzeiya…

Nonini Feat Bon’Eye – Heshma

I’ll start off this post by saying that if you have not heard or bought Nonini’s “Godfather Of Genge” album you are definitely missing out on good music. I really wanna give him props since everything that he does, concerning his music is always a couple of steps higher than other artists. His graphics, videos, website and show performances are all something other artists should strive to emulate and have. In this modern age, the average consumer buying cds or coming to shows wants to feel having a “personal connection” to the artist, by being able to read and see what they are doing on a consistent basis, read their Facebook and Twitter updates , blog entries and also be able to comment back and forth with the artist and get instant feedback. There are not many artists in Africa who are doing what Nonini is doing on a consistent basis and in 2010 digital era standards. Kudos also goes to his management team!!!

I rarely do this but on this post I decided to go to Nonini’s website and copy his blog entry about the “Heshma” track since he perfectly summarizes the track.

“This is my gift to my genge hardcore fans who were with me from day 1 of this journey. People may change with time and life is a rollercoaster with ups and downs but kitu moja sija wai sahau ni mali nilizaliwa!
Pumwani Estate (Carlifornia) where all this genge movement started. The month of October is a very special month to me sabu Kuzaliwa mwezi moja na mzee Gandi (Libra)…… Nonini a.k.a The Godfather takes it back to the block with another record from the godfather album titled Heshma kwa Mtaa…No matter where ur born in this world, its up to u to decide ur fate/destiny in life!!!! Kuanguka tulikataaa…..
RIP Muxhsin and Tuma plus a whole lot of other cats weve lost along the way!”

“Hesham” that features P-Units Bon’Eye is what I call hot street anthem music, that is a banger right from the beat, lyrics and video. The guys did a great job on the video too!!. There are no free downloads on this post. Go out and support good music by copping Nonini’s album here.

Nonini and AY GetMziki Video Showcase

We strive to showcase various artists and songs across Africa, but on the same token we also ensure that we “don’t” showcase tons of an artists songs since we also need people to go out there and support the artists and buying thier records. We also post songs that either did not have videos when we showcased them but the videos are currently now out and what better way than to include the link to the original post and the current video.

This week’s Video showcase is from Nonini and AY.

We showcased Nonini’s “Genge Love” in March (Click here for the Post) and he finally just released the video yesterday. I’m really feelin this video which adds more flavour and punch to the track. You can get Nonini’s album here . Enjoy!!!

The Second video is AY’s with the club banger “Kings and Queens”. We just featured AY a couple of weeks ago with the street anthem track “Usije Mjini” so on this track, we’ll just feature the video. The video for Kings and Queens was directed by Ogopa Djs. Enjoy!!!

Nonini Feat Lady B – Genge Love (GetMziki Exclusive ****)

Nonini slid us this single a couple of days ago and its about time we blessed it out there. Coming fresh out of being nominated for 5 different categories for the 2010 CHAT Awards that will be held on April 17th, this new single confirms why. His new album ‘The Godfather of Genge” is out right now and from the songs I have heard so far, this album is a must get for any music fan out there.

On this new single, Nonini gets lady B for another hot collabo. If you can remember the two also collabo’d on another great track “Kumbuka” on Nonini’s last album. If anything there is this track “Kila Mmoja” on the new album that features Chege from TMK & Lady B, that is crazy!!!!. He should make that his next single heheh.

This song is a banger and will definitely be a lady favorite. Guys should make sure to take a good listen at the intro lol. Make sure you show your lady some “Genge Love” this weekend.

Go out and support real talent by getting a copy of the album and by voting for him at www.noninimusic.com

Enjoy!!!!!

Nonini Feat Mahatma, Frasha, Bonnie, Gabu and Chidi Benz – Kadhaa (Remix)

I will start off this weeks mixtape Friday, with Nonini’s Kadhaa remix. This song is not new (It came out last year in July last year), but the video just came out this week and someone hit me up asking for this track. The Remix features Mahatma, Frasha, Bonnie, Gabu and Chidi Benz. I cannot really say too much about this song since it’s a hot track!!!!. One thing I promised myself is that in 2010 I will let some songs talk to the readers and listeners. The crazy and great punchlines from all the artists are just too many for me to mention but I gotta say that Mahatma and Frasha killed it crazy!!!!!!.
Mahatma did it for me when he says “Sijaona kitu ya bure tangu maziwa ya Nyayo”.

Nonini has also embraced the net really well in terms of pushing his music. and videos. Like he always says ‘Big Idea”. Check out what he wrote on his youTube page about the video

“Another Pro Habo/ Big ideas joint…..actually we did this video as a joke! We were shooting Chidi’s video for chaguo langu and since he was in town, nonini and willie came up with this simple concept of Kadhaa remix. Why not shoot the video while the boys are chilling watching the original on a back ground screen. INITIALLY this video wasnt meant for tv but it came out so superbly we decided why not release it on air…..The boys kama kawa out did themselves big up kila mtu ule ali contribute to this project! Big up Mash Auto for hooking us up with the LIMO!….”

P-Unit Feat Nonini – Hapa Kule (GetMziki Exclusive)

I want to take this opportunity from the GetMziki team to wish everyone a festive holiday season and also to thank everyone for all the support in 2009.

We just got this track a couple of days ago and everyone has been busy with family, but it only right to showcase the track before the new year. On this song, I’ll let it breathe for itself since its straight fire!!!!!!. Like the streets say, IKO!!!!!

On this new track, “Hapa Kule” from their debut album “Wagenge Hao”, P-Unit comprising of Bonnie, Frasha and Gabu go hard on the Musyoka beat for a hot track that really perfectly closes out the successful 2009 year for both P-Unit and Nonini. They are a tight team that are always promoting and supporting each other, something you rarely see nowadays. One thing I also love about the group is that they are really humble and down to earth guys who love making timeless music that rarely follows any industry formula. They have also embraced the internet in a positive way (The “Hapa Kule” video debuted online the same day the song was released) and 2010 looks like the year that they show everyone out there that they a force to be reckoned with in the industry and that they are here to stay. The video is also hot!!! making this the next club anthem from the P-Unit camp.

Enjoy his track that is currently heavy on the streets radio and clubs.

Nonini – Kataa Hio (GetMziki Exclusive ***)

nonini2

Nonini the Godfather of Genge has been working on his Sophomore album for the last few months however according to sources close to him – he hasn’t really been feeling the last few releases. If you recall we debuted KUMBUKA feat Lady Bee and KADHAA on the site a few months ago. I figure he anticipated that any one of these songs would have been bigger than Keroro or any of his previous songs. But to his dismay it seems as though they really haven’t given him the kind of traction he has been anticipating.

Personal note: NOTE TO SELF – to date I still think KERORO was one of Noninis biggest tracks EVER. Musyoka and Nonini in a studio for the first time and Keroro came out. It was so unexpected. Keroro was one of those songs you just have to accept, its vulgarity and audacity made it one of the biggest songs of all time. If i had to do a top all time ten urban tracks in Kenya – my number 2 or 3 would be Keroro.

So knowing Nonini and the perfectionist he is – he decided to drop this single last week to pony up more hype to his much anticipated album. Teaming up with Musyoka again – to see if they can reinvent the chemistry they once had. This Kwaito beat inspired, lyrically compelling track has Nonini reaching for the stars. Personally I don’t know if its bigger than Kumbuka, but thats just my own opinion – I think the day Nonini emailed me and told me about Kumbuka he knew I would never get passed that song 🙂 including the video lol. But ill let y’all sample this goodness and let me know what you all think.

ps. Nonini how about getting a clean cut of Keroro and the instrumentals Mzeiya. Meanwhile anyone who wants the vocals and instrumentals of Kataa Hio – scream at me.

Ishike Radio Weekly Podcasts

ishikeradioprintdjdona450

Like I had promised, I will be showcasing a new mix every Monday in the month of October. A lot of people have been hitting me up requesting some songs on the mixes, so people might notice some “old” tracks in the track listing. In this era, where every body wants to be “Mr Exclusive”, I decided to go aganist the norm and include a “back in the day” track by Tony Nyadundo.

In the first mix, I showcase some songs that are driving the streets crazy like “Finje Finje” by Mr T (Kenya) and “Mtimanyongo” by Shaa Feat Langa(Tanzania). The second mix has a couple of requests, but I also showcase the gospel anthem “Niko Na reason” by Holy Dave and Eko Dida that is a straight club banger. To all the people out there who are still doubting that “Gospel got Swagger too”, check out this lyrics to the song. Enjoy!!!!

“Hakuna kitu ngumu kwa Jesus
anaweza kutuona He can see us
kama aliokoa wanaume 10 K
anaweza okoa wanaume TMK
na TOK, waseme, its OK, its OK
devil nitoke, nitoke”

Nonini Album – The Intro (Haunijui) GetMziki Exclusive

This is the double up to the 3rd Nonini album. This is the intro to that album which will be coming out sometime in March. I am posting this song coz I have a general bias towards this track, I think this track should sit alone as number 2 or number 4 on the album. Nonini and team please put this track somewhere – this joint is a banger. I am not sure who is singing the hook but whoever it is ako na sauti.

Roddy called me out on this track so I had to made edits chap chap – Thanks Roddy

The realness of the lyrics and the mood this track puts you in is sick – Nonini has a way of saying things that I can relate to, things that are relevant and I think thats what makes him and his work special. Ill continue to salute your work so long as you keep churning out hit after hit… Big up.. Enjoy the track!

Brand New: Nonini – Katha

noninimusic_main

Nonini has been hard at work on his third album, some of the classics have been shared on this blog, although majority of his work can be found and sampled at www.noninimusic.com. Nonini continues to remain relevant and continuously churning hits – This brand new track doesn’t even need me to say too much, its a banger and an instant hit. However there is a track I’ve been meaning to post which is the Intro to this album… So many people will sleep on this track because its a short sample of many things but I think it deserves its own post so I am doing a NONINI double up – I am posting that song too… Live live – Nonz might be upset (ataniua) but uwongo mbaya THAT ngoma is killer – The Intro to this album is FIRE… Wacha I post that ngoma…

This is however is Nonini’s brand new Katha.. Enjoy

Nonini feat Ngoni – we love to party

I got this song a while back but I hadnt figured out if I should share it or not, while I love Nonini to death – I think this is not one of his best work. HAIJA NI BAMBA. I am not sure if its Ngonis screaming in the back or just the sheer fact that I think or feel it was a rushed song. I love both these artists in their own right – but this song didnt do much for me.

However while we digest this song, Nonini how about sending me that song that’s on the intro of this video, that sounds like a BANGER.. better than this we love to party track. The person on that other hook sounds sick too waaa.. “funga domo lako, haunijui mimi, wacha nenda wacha nenda” thats some sick joint nitumie… (Ati nonini siku hizi ame nona, swahili ni hii mbona we umekonda! ha ha ha thats right) nitumie hio ngoma ndo niwache ku upload ma ngoma kama hizi.

Otherwise I know there are guys here who might love this joint… So Enjoy! Nonini and Ngoni

Brand New : Nonini feat Lady Bee – Kumbuka

I finally got my hands on this exclusive new NONINI track called Kumbuka. ITS SICK!!! And am not just saying that because I know Nonini, but for the first time I feel like I can relate to the memories and lyrical content on this track. Nonini takes folks back in time mentioning things that I personally experienced, things I lived through and things I often sit down and reminisce about.

This is one of those joints that we will be listening to for a long time, over and over again. I had forgotten about Music Time, I had forgotten about Club Jungle… (Nonini ulisahau kuweka Brili, Holly Mbao, Visions and most important Club Boom). I don’t want to drain this track by talking it up, so I will let you all enjoy the track first and then get back at me… KAMERO!!!

// on a personal note I want to commend Nonini for embracing the Internet. I recently commented on his attempt to create NONINI MUSIC.COM, and explore online music distribution options. We are currently working on a few things together but all in all it would be nice if most Kenyan artists would travel to the US and leave the US having left something as meaningful as Nonz did. Last time I checked – Nameless left the US and didn’t leave even a single behind… I know Logombaz are working on a new album, but there is no place to get that information from. I know DNA has a new song, P-Unit and all these great artists but there is just no outlet.

I always admire artist who make bold moves… // “Tushauriane tafadhali”

Si Lazima : P-Unit feat Nonini

si lazima

Its rather obvious what this song means once you listen to it a couple of times. Its a classic club banger in Kenya, and its had the industry buzzing for a few months now. P-Unit are proteges of Nonini, his camp – well groomed soldiers I must say. You will be seeing them here for a a while and a lot more new material that they have. Needless to say Si Lazima is one of those tracks you will want to listen to over and over again.
