Grandpa Government- Fimbo ya Tatu

I just got this record today and with them releasing the video today simultaneously, it’s only fair I show case it while it’s still hot. When Dan sent me this record I knew what to expect from the track. Here is an excerpt of what I said before about Grandpa records, their sound, music and artists.

They’ve been on the grind by building their fan base by releasing various records and doing various shows and concerts across East Africa. In the process, they’ve also found and perfected their own sound and lane.

Fimbo ya Tatu features Wavinya , KenRazy , Visita , Lil Sliq , Renee , Wyre , Dufla Diligon , Sosuun , Chief Moses , U.B , Sauti Sol and although some of the artists just are on the chorus, them appearing on the video is a big testament to how 254 artists collabo and how they should be rocking together for the future.

Grandpa Records got another hit here

Sauti Sol – Sura Yako

We all know Sauti Sol can make great dope records. We also know that through their musical journey we voiced strong “No’s No’s” with some of their releases. “Sura Yako” is their latest offering and with releases like this one with great production, cool subject and smooth vocals makes me feel like they are back.

The songwriting is great and while there’s still no word on whether all this new music is part of a larger project, we will keep everyone out there updated on the groups next release.

Sauti Sol – Still the One (**GetMziki Exclusive)

The last time we featured Sauti Sol on the site was with their track “Range Rover”. While other media sites while going ham on the record and playing the “we love it” bandwagon theme, we chose to call it as we saw it.

It’s one thing you know you will get with our song reviews. “Range Rover” as reviewed by Leo was a horrible record and we were honest and open about .Here is an excerpt on the song review by Leo.

“Seriously guys – RANGE ROVER!!! Really?
Truly I am embarassed and disappointed to say I was a SAUTI SOL fan. I felt like I could relate to the group, I felt like they represented a movement, a sound, a story. I felt the partnership they had with Wawesh at the time was probably the best thing since M-PESA. But you can’t tell me these are the same guys who made Lazizi and Blue Uniform? I actually refuse to accept that they have evolved and grown into this…

Fast forward to last week when they released this new record and they are definitely going back to the esence of the Lazizi and Blue Uniform days. We definitely got a banger here 🙂

Collo Ft. Sauti Sol- Dreamer (Tawala) (**GetMziki Exclusive)

The best thing about Collo is that you never know what to expect from him. He’s always pushing the boundaries and is never afraid to show his different musical and human personas. Listening to “Dreamer” a personal dedication to his daughter, Collo proves that being heavy in the streets and making hit records still leaves space for letting fans into his personal life.

Collo had this to say whe he sent the GetMziki team the track. ” It’s been approximately 1 year since God blessed me with my Daughter Tawala. Attached is a song I have done dedicated to her and I have to share it with you.”

Sauti Sol lend their vocals on this tribute track that was produced by Ulopa Ngoma. On a side note, Collo can we get the “King wa Rap” album.

P-Unit Feat Sauti Sol – Gentleman

In the current music industry, collabos are key to penetrating some markets and different fan bases. However some collabos seemed forced and it’s not too many collabos that breathe freshness. One of the collabos that I’ve been riding to that breathe’s freshness is “Gentleman” by P-unit Feat Sauti Sol. I can honestly say the pairing on this track works perfectly. P-Unit exhibits an impressively smooth and lyrical flow and delivery, which perfectly merges with the beat. Production on the track was done by producer extradionare Robert Kimanzi aka R Kay who has produced tons of hits for East African Artists.

The first time I heard the track, I knew that “Nipate baby kwenye bar, uliza shorty what u drinking” will be a common line that most guys will soon be using. With this track, P-Unit proves that they can shift gears from working solo to collabos but still maintain a feeling of ownership throughout any project.

Enjoy!!!

Sauti Sol – Blue Uniform (Video Update ***)

Sauti Sol

There is no denying how I feel about Sauti Sol, my general biase has always been evident by the frequent number of posts I have on this website with their classic tunes. Real talk though is I know none of these guys and have never met or been acquainted to any of them. But I just love their music. PERIOD. I mean dang these folks make good music thanks to BLAO and crew this is probably the greatest group of all time in Kenya in my opinion.

I recently asked Wawesh (who runs Blao and Imekubalika and PENYA) in that order to give me 40% of these cats future sales immediately the step foot in the US. Ive seen many Kenyans perform in my life time, I am yet to see Sauti Sol perform live but I honestly believe these guys GOT NEXT… Meaning if they stay consistent and stay doing what they do – these are going to be the next Kenyan International super stars.

ps. I will update the mp3 file for Sol lovers later this week

Sauti Sol on Reuters

Normally we dont post news articles or videos fuwaaaa!! but I think its worth noting that Sauti Sol is going places. I am still slightly confliced with the genre term, Afro Soul, Afro neo soul, Kenyan Urban Soul – GetMziki came up with Rythm & Zouk which we think fits well within these types of music genre.

However this video from Reuters does enough justice to this music group that we have been featuring and bickering about that everyone check em out and buy yourself an album. Currently through Getmziki we have been able to push almost 30 request for the album. feel free to hit us up for a copy, whether you are in the US or in Kenya – Penya Records has services across the globe with various partnerships.

SAUTI SOL – WE SALUTE YOU AND WE EMBRACE AND WILL SUPPORT YOUR JOURNEY TO BREAK THE US MARKET.

Sauti Sol: Mushivala & Bonus Lazizi Video

Sauti Sol

There has been some backlash on the site for the last few days about some of the few posts on the site and general biases with regards to certain artists. I hope this post doesn’t seem to be one of those that you feel I am forcing down your throats 🙂 The fact of the matter from my perspective is if anyone is sleeping on Sauti Sol then they are missing out on one of the MOST talented groups in kenya right now. I dont see how Sony signed the choir that sang at Obamas inauguration ceremony and didnt think to go back to Kenya to look for talents such as these?

A few months ago we helped promote Sauti Sol before their album dropped – we debuted their hit track Lazizi, which they just released the video to. I love it. I cant lie. Story finished. These cats make me love Kenya each day – and they almost make me want to be a Luhya… Lunje has never sounded so sexy… Papa Shirandula style. So as I post this video for you guys to enjoy, I am thugging another song off the album that I like also called Mushivala…. That Luhya jama really blows (sings his heart out). I only wish I could hear Luhya – there is some exotic shit about this track… Mushivala ndivonyene… or whatever he says.

So apparently the song is about how the jama is alone in this world or something.. can some real Luhyas translate?

Brand New: Sauti Sol – Lazizi (GetMziki Exclusive***)

img courtesy of Sauti Sol – Penya Records

The multi-talented Sauti Sol is nothing you have ever experienced before. The African acoustic band consists of 4 members; Bien-Aime Baraza, Willis Chimano, Delvin Mudigi and Polycarp Otieno who met in high school and originally started as an accapella group. Their album is a fusion of African sound with an urban feel; most of the songs apparently have been well received when performed live among Sauti’s continuously growing fan-base.

When I received the Sauti Sol CD, the packaging and the production was up to par with what I expected. But what I didn’t expect was the actual sound coming from the group. This is purely a musical experience. I want everyone to experience what I did, and I will debut bits and pieces of this album over the next few months but for today please listen to this journey – because I think Kenya is onto something and the whole Penya crew is coming up with some interesting music from the region.

Wawesh I salute you continue and keep up with the good work…
