Kanja Feat. SilvaStone – Lights Out

We re

ally don’t need to reintroduce Kanja to the masses out there. If you’re an avid follower of the site, you now that he’s graced our pages a few times ever since the 106 and park days and his hard work and consistent grind is definitely showing.

I’ve always rooted for Kanja, but on Lights Out he treads on the hit or miss end of the spectrum. Heavily borrowing from Davido – Dami Duro, Silvastone cooks up a good record that sounds and feels like a record you’ve bumped to before in the club. Lights out is a record that will either do great or be a big flop. There cannot be a middle ground with such records. Imagine if we had a similar sounding K.Dot’s Swimming pools or Nonini’s Keroro. Would they still resonate with you the same way?

Kanja had his own lane which worked great for him. Musically, you sometimes have to make fans understand your movement instead of joining other peoples movement. Look at Trinidad James, who has a weird style and sounds but who’s currently making everybody emulate and copy his All gold everything and Don’t Be S.A.F.E. sounds.

Don’t get me wrong, light outs is a great record. I just believe the timing of it’s release could have come at a better time.
